The Rundown

7:00pm – Introductions & Welcome

We'll do a quick introduction and kick off the evening.

7:10 pm –   Jelmer Snoeck: Service alerting and monitoring

In this talk, we’ll dive into the wonderful world of observability. We’ll first get to know what those famous SLIs and SLOs stand for and how we can define and utilize them for our application. Once we understand those concepts, we’ll look at how we can tie our alerting and monitoring together in a declarative manner.

7:30 pm –  Josh Biggley: Observing Complexity: The Art and Science of Observability

Complexity is not a modern phenomenon nor is the struggle to operate in complex environments limited by modern technologies. As systems monitoring has matured, the concept of observability has been embraced and derided by engineers and marketers alike. What is observability? Is it art masquerading as science? Charlottetown-based Josh Biggley is an Ops Strategist at New Relic. Join us as he explores monitoring and observability, the art and the science.

8:10 pm - Q&A + Networking event

Stick around for some Q&A on Tim’s talk, and get to know our other community members on Zoom.
