Community Guidelines

#Halihax is a place to collaborate, ask questions, discuss new products, find work, get feedback and keep up on local events. We’ve developed a loose set of guidelines to help you navigate the community:

Be Authentic

We encourage members to use their real name and represent themselves with a profile photo. Do not misrepresent yourself.

Introduce Yourself

All members of #Halihax are encouraged to introduce themselves in the #Halihax channel upon arrival. Give the community a short description of who you are and what you’re working on. Feel free to share what you are looking to get out of the community, as well.

Act Professional

#Halihax is a community of professionals. Although the community permits a wide range of humour and profanity, please be respectful and courteous to other members. As with any large group of people, disagreements will happen. We understand that you’ll have some strong opinions, but we still expect courtesy during a debate, and expect you to refrain from personal attacks.

No Unwanted Solicitation

All members have an expectation that they will not be solicited by default. In cases where a member invites solicitation (ie. makes a request, posts a job, etc), you are free to engage with them. Should the member choose to revoke this, at any time, continued solicitation is grounds for removal from the community. Members are encouraged to report instances of this occurring to our community organizers.

Create Discussion

We encourage members to create meaningful and respectful discussion around their experiences and projects/products. We have a number of topic channels. If the subject you wish to discuss does not fit in one of these channels, please use the #Halihax channel. If the discussion in #Halihax would be best suited in a topic, try to migrate your discussion there.

Thread Your Responses

To keep our channels organized, we ask that you create conversations in Slack threads. This enables people to have multiple conversations at the same time, and keeps the channel history tidy. If you see a 🧵 reaction on a message, this is a subtle reminder to move the conversation into a thread.

Advertising or Promotions

Halihax invites you to promote relevant items in #jobs and #events, keeping the main #halihax channel free from advertisement. If you're unsure about whether you should post something in the main channel, consider reaching out to someone in the @volunteers group for advice.

Brand accounts (those representing entities other than an individual person) are not permitted. Any advertisement will be removed. Individuals who represent a brand are permitted to engage within the parameters of our community guidelines.

Recruiting

The #jobs channel is the best place to post any roles you are looking for, or are looking to fill. If you are a recruitment professional, we ask that you do not direct message users to advertise a role you are filling.

Invite Others

User Slack, you're able to nominate new members using the "/invite_people" command. You can also refer people to our website to apply for an invite at halihax.com/join using their email address.

Rule Violations

Failure to adhere to the community guidelines can result in your messages being removed (either automatically by our bot, or at an administrator’s discretion). Repeated violation will result in loss of access to the community.

Feel free to message @moderators to report anything you're uncomfortable with, or have identified as being contradictory to our guidelines.
